Senior Citizens
Needing to use a manual wheelchair when out for some sight-seeing should never be seen as a punishment. Some senior citizens that are otherwise healthy but are developing arthritis or other chronic painful conditions can find a manual wheelchair freeing rather than limiting. The manual wheelchair works like a pain preventative to help you keep up a good quality of life.
This is why manual wheelchairs are offered in public places like department stores, supermarkets, museums and zoos. Senior citizens often have a little spending money in their wallets, so providing some wheelchair services is a small price for the store or attraction to pay in order to please a large customer base.
Some public places or attractions like theme parks or aquariums will not offer free manual wheelchair service. They will offer a low-cost rental fee. Recovering From Illness Or Injury
It can be frustrating when you are given orders by your doctor to stay off of your feet for conditions ranging from a broken leg to a rough pregnancy. If you've had major surgery and are loaded up with painkillers, you may feel as if you are perfectly fine and ready to take on the world. Not so fast. You can still see your corner of the world, but in a lightweight manual wheelchair.
Although you may feel fine, your body still needs time to heal. Depending on what your illness or injury is, you may need to not risk re-opening a wound or pulling out your stitches. Also, you may get dizzy at a very inopportune moment and pass out. It takes a surprising amount of energy to keep your balance while standing and walking. Your body needs to use all the energy it can for healing.
